Looking back on 2010 – there isn’t a whole lot to say. (…and I guess sometimes that’s a good thing!) I liked last year’s idea of describing a whole year in one word, and maintaining seems to sum it up. My other thought was “sustain”…but that sounds more like survival, which wasn’t the feeling I was trying to convey. We had good times and bad times, (like any normal year) but mostly we were just swimming along the stream of life more-or-less “okay”. Not exciting, but I’d rather have “okay” than exciting in a bad way!
Our jobs have been exactly the same – again, I’m not complaining…
This past winter, we didn’t go anywhere warm like the year previous. We did go skiing at the end of February in Wausau, which was a really fun little day trip as documented in my “Weekend Adventures” post on March 2nd.
Once again this spring and summer, we continued to work on our landscaping and planted a few fruit trees and bushes in our yard. We also created a “bird station” in front of our picture window just outside our kitchen so we can watch the wild birds up close from our house. We put up a pole that would hold a couple of bird feeders and also planted some bushes nearby that produce berries to give the birds a little variety.
Kaden is in second grade this year, and is just loving his teacher. He’s become a much better listener in the classroom and his handwriting is really coming along. He’s a great reader and he’s starting to whip through his math facts. Ken still helps out with the school’s PTA, volunteering to help during school functions, etc.
This year Kaden also got to try out T-Ball and Cub Scouts. He seems to enjoy any activity we enroll him in. Ken is having fun helping to guide Kaden through his various accomplishments in scouts. They’ve already signed up to go to camp for a few days this upcoming summer.
Today we are packing and preparing for an almost three week trip out to the West Coast. We will spend Ken’s 40th birthday and Christmas with his friends and family in Ashland, then drive down to the Bay Area to celebrate with more friends and family in San Francisco! From there, Ken and Kaden will fly home and I’m off to a tradeshow in Las Vegas for a few days.
Speaking of travel, we are also planning to take a road trip to Disney World over spring break this
upcoming year. Kaden’s friend’s family is also planning to travel there at this time, so it should be a blast for all of the kids. Can’t wait!!!
Happy New Year everyone! May 2011 be the best year yet!
